Nestled in Nature, Rooted in Terroir
Birdland, or Camp de Aucels in Occitan, stretches across the garrigue of the Natura 2000 zone
‘Montagnac-Villeveyrac,’ a special bird protection area. It’s clear that the people of the 13th century aptly named this place, which remains a refuge for bird nesting. To preserve the extraordinary biodiversity of this habitat, it is essential to practice organic farming. This is what we do throughout the seasons, with persistence, working gently and guided by constant observation, responding as a farmer without disrupting the balance of life.
Our organically farmed vines are mostly located north of Montagnac on Camp Aucels, with the exception of reclaimed farmland in Castelnau de Guers at the heart of the Picpoul de Pinet appellation.
They are young (10 years old), planted at high density, and trellised to protect them from damage during spring wind gusts. Few diseases affect the vineyard, making it easier to obtain high-quality grapes.
These 12 hectares in production host 12 different grape varieties.
The soils are predominantly clay-limestone from the garrigue, where thyme, cistus, heather, olive trees, broom, and other aromatic plants grow, infusing my wines with their fragrance.
Their nature demands careful observation to act at the most appropriate time. One must work with the soil, not against it. The limestone brings aromatic finesse, while the clay adds depth to the wine’s structure.
From vineyard to cellar
They have always sought to transform their fruit while minimizing the addition of products.
Their love for the land, respect for the fruit, and gentle handling, combined with strict hygiene,
enable this approach. During aging and maturation in the tanks, their wines evolve in a musical
atmosphere, a reflection of their partner’s passion.
