Domaine de Rome
Acquired in 1920, Domaine de Rome has been a family-run winery for four generations in Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois. Starting with a forefather skilled in vine grafting, the vineyard grew to cover 13 hectares across Sainte-Gemme, Sury-en-Vaux, and Verdigny.
The estate cultivates 10.50 hectares of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc and 2.50 hectares of Sancerre Pinot Noir for red and rosé wines. Committed to quality and the environment, the domaine has worked organically for over a decade, earning certification in 2023.
This blend of history and terroir shapes their wines, appreciated by loyal customers and trusted by national and international partners.
No chemical products are used, ensuring the preservation of biodiversity.
The soils are worked mechanically, with manual tasks like disbudding and leaf stripping performed as needed. During harvest, the grapes are carefully hand-picked, followed by sorting on a table and destemming for the reds.
The winery carries out alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts naturally found on the grapes. The wine is then aged for 6 to 12 months in a variety of containers, including barrels, foudres, and steel tanks, depending on the cuvée.
