Stellar & Classic Burgundy.
The Delagrange family has worked vinyards and crafted wines in Burgundy for six—going on seven—generations. Since 1947, when René Delagrange bottled the Premier Cru « Clos des Chenes, » they’ve made their home in Volnay.
René’s son, Henri Delgrange and his wife Gisele took over the six-hectare vineyard in Volnay and Pommard. The domaine expanded significantly when their son Didier joined in 1990, planting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, doubling the vineyard’s size.
Didier took over in 2003, expanding with plots in Meursault, Aloxe-Corton, and Volnay Premier Cru “Les Champans.” Now joined by his son Alexis, the domaine spans 15 hectares, with many vines near the Volnay-Pommard border, benefiting from their distinct geology.
From vineyard to cellar
The slopes of Volnay produce delicate, fragrant Pinot, while Pommard’s flatter lands—just a few hundred feet away—deliver power and concentration. To extract those distinct characters, the Delagranges intervene minimally, but monitor fastidiously. They prune, thin, and trellis by hand, and in the cellar, they ferment with indigenous yeasts and use new oak sparingly to deliver complex and well-balanced wines.
White grapes are hand-harvested, carefully selected, and gently pressed for optimal juice. After settling, fermentation occurs in barrels at ideal temperatures to preserve aromas and freshness. The wines age for 12 months in barrels or tanks, with regular tastings to ensure quality.
