Passion around family heritage

Bertrand Graillot started the Domaine De l’Estang in 2004 on his family farm remains. The winery is located in Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre, on the bottom of Sancerre. The farm was designed to make wine in 1850 but the Phylloxéra crisis at the end of the 19th century decided otherwise. The family preferred to stay focus on farming instead making wine
It’s Bretrand’s father who decided to save the family winery and restore the farm in the 80s. After many years studying winemaking in Beaune, Burgundy and in Tours, Loire Valley, Bertrand decided to rebuild the winery with passion around his family heritage. It’s at the age of 23 that Bertrand took over the winery.
At the beginning, Bertrand started with 2Ha of Vin de France Sauvignon and 0.5Ha of Coteaux du Giennois. Now the winery is composed of 1.5Ha of Sancerre white, 40 acres of Sancerre red, 7Ha of Coteaux du Giennois and 1Ha of Vin de France Sauvignon.

From vineyard to cellar

The vineyard is worked with organic treatment in order to respect the soils. Inter-row cultivation is very important; it’s why the vineyard is covered with grass; it stimulates microbial activity, enriches the soils and limits erosion.
Harvests are made by machine for the whites and by hand for the reds. The winemaking takes 3-4 weeks for the alcoholic fermentation and then aged minimum 6 months on fine lies in stainless steel tank. Very low intervention on the wine in order to keep quality and add the minimum of sulfites.
